Store Closing

***Effective Immediately****

After a number of ongoing issues regarding the safety and integrity of the building we are renting, and our landlord's refusal to perform any proper maintenance, code enforcement was forced to condemn the building at 1340 Walnut Street, Murphysboro, Illinois, on Tuesday, June 23, 2015.

The Painted Chest will be closed until we can secure a new storefront.  I am having the store telephone number, 618-565-8404, transferred to my home so that my customers can still reach me for questions or to purchase paint.

Those of you who have pieces in for custom work, please know that it will all be completed, it might just take a little longer.  I will be contacting all of you by telephone over the next couple of days to update you on the status of your projects.

I can't thank you all enough for your support and patronage!!  This is just a little bump in the road and I will be back.

If you would like to order Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint, please contact me by e-mail or telephone.  If you would like to order Debi's Design Diary DIY Paint, you can e-mail, telephone, or visit this LINK to order.

You will find the most recent updates on my Facebook page HERE.

Vintage Vanity and Bed Makeover

I recently finished a vintage vanity and bed for a sweet little girl.

When discussing how to refinish this set which was being passed down from generation to generation, mom wanted to go a little more neutral with gray and the daughter wanted pink.  What little girl doesn't want pink?

I made a suggestion to mom about using both pink and gray and we made a compromise that made everyone happy.

This set was painted with Debi Beards' DIY Paint in Letterpress Gray and Petticoat Pink.  Two sweet colors that work very well together.  It was finished with clear wax.

The center mirror was broken when it arrived.  Replacing the center mirror would mean that it wouldn't have that great aged patina that the side mirrors had.  We were able to save the center mirror by applying a bead of silicon caulk in between the broken sections and around the edges of the mirror on the back.  That will ensure that mirror will not move within the frame and cause further damage.

We then took a strip of molding and routed the edges so it would fit snug against the frame and attached it over the break.  It looks like it has always been there.

The Painted Chest was featured in Life & Style Magazine!

My goodness, time flies when you are having fun.  I don't think I ever told you guys that I was featured in Life & Style magazine!

Back in December, I received a call from a writer from Life & Style who wanted to come interview me for the next issue of their magazine.  To say I was excited was an understatement!  While it is a regional magazine, they are very choosy about who is featured.  I had only had my store open a month when I got the call.  Chanda Green was amazing and really put me at ease.

It was just supposed to be a short little article, so I was really surprised when February rolled around and I had a two-page spread.

Ms. Green's writing is much better than mine, so I will just let you read the piece for yourself.

I'm on pages 41 and 42 CLICK HERE.

Debi's Design Diary DIY Paint

I am pleased to announce that The Painted Chest is now a Retailer for Debi Beard's DIY Paint!

DIY Paint comes in 20 fabulous colors and is non-toxic and all natural.  It is made of chalk, clay, and minerals.  It is designed to give you a smooth finish, but also has the unique ability to create texture.

It is Made in the U.S.A. by Heirloom Traditions, a third-generation family business in Louisville, Kentucky.  Unlike many chalk-type paint brands, DIY Paint is made from scratch.  The pigment is crushed into the formula.  When the paint is made this way vs. adding pigment to a pre-made base, the pigmentation is much deeper.

DIY Paint distresses beautifully.  Because there is no latex or acrylic in our paint, you can rub the paint back with a wet cloth or wet sanding block.  Some people even use a baby wipe.  This makes completing a project indoors a breeze!  No more dusty mess!

Top coat your piece with one of their wonderful furniture waxes in clear, dark, or white.  Or you can use the new Liquid Patina which comes in 4 fabulous colors!

You can purchase in-store or order online at: Shop DIY Paint

I will soon be hosting FUN classes and workshops using this amazing paint!  So watch for my class schedule!

Exciting Changes Happening!!!

The Painted Chest is MOVING!!!  That's right, I am moving into my very own store!!!  My new location will be at 1340 Walnut Street in Murphysboro, Illinois.  It's right on the corner of 14th and Walnut streets.  I can't tell you how excited I am to see my dreams coming true!

Another paint line is also coming to The Painted Chest!  Fusion™ Mineral Paint is an amazing new furniture paint made by Homestead House Paint Company, also the manufacturer of Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint.

You can learn more at Fusion™ Mineral Paint HERE.

I have also been asked to be a part of the Fusion™ Mineral Paint Leadership Team as the new Midwest Regional Merchant Trainer!!!

What does that mean?  That means that I will be teaching all of the new Midwest Fusion™ Merchants (retailers) how to use Fusion™ and its companion products as well as how to teach workshops to their own customers.

My region covers the following 11 Midwest states:  Kansas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio.

This is also the reason why I am opening my own store, because all of those retailers will be coming to Murphysboro, Illinois for their training!!!
