Have you heard? The Painted Chest has moved!

That's right, The Painted Chest has MOVED to a NEW location!!

We are now located inside The Turquoise Door at 220 West Main Street, in Ava, Illinois.  We are so pleased to a part of Kasey's wonderful store.  We will have available, our hand painted vintage and antique furniture, Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint, and farmhouse style home decor.  We also have the old formula of DIY Paint on clearance.  It's almost gone so get it while you can.

Besides our great items, The Turquoise Door also features many handmade and upcycled items from local artisans.  Those items include home decor, garden art, jewelry, children's boutique clothing, and all natural soaps and lotions.

Make a day of shopping in Ava and have a great lunch while you are there!  Visit The Brick Wall Boutique for ladies clothing and have lunch at Brunzeez Cafe or sit out on the patio at Gabby's for lunch and drinks.

Apron Strings and Dried Lavender Retiring

Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint is retiring the colors Apron Strings and Dried Lavender.  Get these lovely colors before they are gone for good.

After a number of ongoing issues regarding the safety and integrity of the building we are renting, and our landlord's refusal to perform any proper maintenance, code enforcement was forced to condemn the building at 1340 Walnut Street, Murphysboro, Illinois, on Tuesday, June 23, 2015.

The Painted Chest will be closed until we can secure a new storefront.  I am having the store telephone number, 618-565-8404, transferred to my home so that my customers can still reach me for questions or to purchase paint.

Those of you who have pieces in for custom work, please know that it will all be completed, it might just take a little longer.  I will be contacting all of you by telephone over the next couple of days to update you on the status of your projects.

I can't thank you all enough for your support and patronage!!  This is just a little bump in the road and I will be back.

The Painted Chest was featured in Life & Style Magazine!

My goodness, time flies when you are having fun.  I don't think I ever told you guys that I was featured in Life & Style magazine!

Back in December, I received a call from a writer from Life & Style who wanted to come interview me for the next issue of their magazine.  To say I was excited was an understatement!  While it is a regional magazine, they are very choosy about who is featured.  I had only had my store open a month when I got the call.  Chanda Green was amazing and really put me at ease.

It was just supposed to be a short little article, so I was really surprised when February rolled around and I had a two-page spread.

Ms. Green's writing is much better than mine, so I will just let you read the piece for yourself.

Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint European Colours

We are very excited to announce that we will be carrying Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint's NEW European Colour Collection!!  We are expecting our shipment to arrive any day now.  I will be sure to let you know when it hits the shelves.  

In the mean time, say 'hello' to Arabesque, Bergere, Layla's Mint, Marzipan, Mora,  and Schloss.

First up is:

Arabesque

Think ballet tights, dusty pink tutus and pale tea roses and you’ll have a good idea what to expect from Arabesque.  This decidedly feminine color is also surprisingly neutral, making this pink one that goes beyond nurseries.

Bergere

This smokey blue gray inspired by the painted frames of a pair of antique French Bergere chairs.  This blue is more subtle than the other blues in our line, but still makes a statement.

Layla's Mint

A version of this warm, minty green was originally custom-mixed for Layla of The Lettered Cottage.  It ended up being the perfect green to add to our subtle European colour collection.

Marzipan

Named for the delicious almond paste famous in Germany, Marzipan is an equally delicious warm neutral.  It’s an off-white with beige and warm gray undertones. It pairs beautifully with Ironstone for a subtle contrast.

Mora

Mora is named for the famous curvy clocks made in Mora,Sweden.  It is a whisper of a color – a neutral with gray, blue and green undertones.

Schloss

This rich, stone color is named Schloss,the German word for castle.  It’s warmer and richer than Trophy, making it the “greige” that our customers have been asking for!

What's new at The Painted Chest?

Workshops have finally been scheduled!  I know many of you have been eagerly awaiting this announcement.

The following dates for Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint 101 classes are:

This will be a Christmas themed Milk Paint 101 Workshop.  We will be making a Christmas themed sign at the end of class.

This is a Christmas Sign Workshop for those of you who have already taken Milk Paint 101.  You've been through 4 hours of instruction and you have a good grasp on how to mix and use Milk Paint.  So come for a relaxing evening with your friends and make a Christmas sign to enhance your holiday decor or to use as a Christmas gift!

The Milk Paint 101 furniture refinishing class is a hands-on learning experience in the world of Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint.  You will learn how to mix milk paint, painting techniques and explore the different top coats. You will leave this class with a fun project that you can take home.

Classes will be held at The Painted Chest, 1340 Walnut Street, Murphysboro, Illinois.  The cost is $65 and this includes 4 hours of instruction and all paint, supplies, and materials needed in class as well as a sign you will make to take home.  There is a limit of 8 people per class.

Fusion Mineral Paint kitchen cabinet makeover classes will begin after the new year.

December 6th is also the Deer Hunting Widows Shopping Event for the Unique Shops of Murphysboro.

The Event will take place from 10am to 3pm.  Shoppers can participate in a Scavenger Hunt that will take them from store to store trying "hunt" down the items that match their clues.  They will then be entered for a Grand Buck prize!

Stores will have light refreshments and when you are ready to take a short break, Jack's Meat Market and Deli will have a lunch special available sure to cure your hungry appetite.

We have a new Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint Color of the Month!  Boxwood is the new color for the month of December.  During the month of December you will receive 10% off of every quart of Boxwood Milk Paint.

Boxwood

Boxwood is our rich, dark grassy green.  Depending on the finish used on the piece, it can look bright and bold or subtle - more like a muted olive.

Boxwood is named for the preserved boxwood wreaths and topiaries Marian uses in her interiors.

Boxwood mixes well with Grain Sack to create a pale aqua.  Layer under Lucketts Green for a two-toned monochromatic look.
